Everything you missed if you skipped JSNation this year 😎

See the best of the first church-based JS conference

Amsterdam is a perfect city for all kinds of fun but geeky fun has only been a recent addition to the list.

We've run our AmsterdamJS meetups for a couple of years now and when we started, we didn't imagine we'd eventually organize a major conference for attendees from all around the world. We also didn't imagine we'd have Douglas Crockford give an opening keynote. 😲

As you might have guessed, this year's edition of Amsterdam JSNation turned out great. On July 1, our gorgeous venue got packed with over 500 developers, all coming to see the latest trends in JS, use them to solve real-world problems… and also coming to enjoy the early summer in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. 😍

The conf was hosted by Zuiderkerk — a former church in the center of the city. The place has since its construction inspired many people, including the likes of Monet and Rembrandt, and this year, we've made sure it would inspire all kinds of developers using JavaScript in their work.

Catching all the fun on camera is impossible but we carefully recorded every talk from the conference. You can find them in a handy YouTube playlist, and if you find an especially useful talk, feel free to share it with your fellow devs.

🕹 Watch the talks

If we had to point out just a couple of our attendees' favorite talks, they'd be the following ones:

André Staltz: Callback Heaven

“Callback hell” is the reason why we have created libraries and tools to help us avoid using callbacks directly. Fortunately, you can now go beyond reactive programming and use the “Callbags” pattern that allows you to do everything that Observables or Promises or Iterables can do, and through familiar functional APIs.

Jenn Voss: Tales from the QA crypt

JavaScript has all the tools required to cover your automated testing needs, and writing tests in the same language as your app is a no brainer. Jenn covers the tools available today and the logistics of merging your QA and dev teams.

Niels Leenheer: Fun with Bluetooth

With WebBluetooth, the browser can take control of all kinds of physical devices: lightbulbs, robots, and even drones. This talk will teach you the basics that you need to get started.

The attendees were definitely excited about JSNation 2018 and you can see that in the tweets and all the pics from the 2 days of JSNation. We published the best photos in 2 separate Facebook albums — take a look:

We're excited about how JSNation turned out after so many months of preparations, and we're glad to announce that the 2019 edition is already in the works.
